Kentucky – Indiana Lawyers
Meet Our Team for Estate Planning, Probate and Living Trusts
Rosalyn A. Carothers, Attorney
I have practiced law in Louisville and Southern Indiana for over 27 years. My law practice is focused on estate planning, probate and living trusts. I am a member of the Bar Associations of Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana, as well as the American Bar Association. I started practicing law in 1990 and opened my own firm in 2001.
In high school, while on track to become a musician, I had a history teacher who was going to law school. She discussed various cases, which drew me to the legal profession. I graduated from the University of Louisville with 2 Bachelor’s degrees, in Music Performance and Music Education. I then played in the Louisville Orchestra and taught in the Jefferson County School system. In 1987 I decided it was time to satisfy my curiosity about law school, I earned my Juris Doctor in 1990.
After working for several local law firms, I became frustrated because they didn’t seem to want to take care of the client as a top priority. A client once brought me peanut brittle. The lawyer who was my supervisor said, “Peanut brittle doesn’t pay the bills!” I knew then that I had to open my own shop.
In addition to my legal practice, I am active in many local nonprofit organizations, sitting on boards and working on fundraising to provide scholarships for music students at the University of Louisville School of Music. Currently, I am a fiddler for a bluegrass band by the name of Miller’s Folly. To see our performance schedule, click on the photo to the right.

I handle all aspects of trust and estate administration. I meet with family members to advise them of the requirements for the transition of assets from the decedent to the beneficiary. To that end, I prepare estate accounts, pay expenses, balance accounts, prepare federal and state inheritance tax returns, file Affidavits of Exemptions for a final estate settlement. I have also assisted in helping to determine heirs. I also handle tax preparation and filings for state and federal tax returns, prepare wills, trusts, powers of attorney and living will directives. I also work with our litigation department in the preparation and processing of court documents and obtaining medical records.
